REDD+ Opportunity Costs Training Manual

by

This manual shares hands-on experiences from field programs and presents the essential practical and theoretical steps, methods, and tools for conducting an opportunity cost analysis for REDD+ at the national level. The manual addresses the calculation of costs and benefits of the various land use alternatives in relation to their carbon stocks and the identification of economic trade-offs involved in REDD+ activities. It also includes information on data collection, analysis and evaluation techniques.

REDD Abacus SP

by

This webpage presents information on the REDD Abacus SP, a public domain software to estimate emission from land use and land cover changes, analyze trade-offs between emissions and financial gain (opportunity cost analysis), and produce abatement cost curves and simulate zone-specific policies and other emission reduction scenarios. The tool can be downloaded from this webpage, as can the User Manual.

Forest Carbon Calculator

by

This presentation provides brief guidance on how to use the USAID Forest Carbon Calculator for reporting GHG emissions per the Forest Carbon Reporting Initiative of USAID Global Climate Change Program.

CO2FIX V 3.1 – A modelling framework for quantifying carbon sequestration in forest ecosystems

by

This report describes the conceptual approach of the CO2FIX V 3.1 model, as well as its implementation and numerous examples. The CO2FIX V 3.1 model quantifies the carbon stocks and fluxes in forest biomass, soil organic matter, and wood products chain. It also includes a bioenergy module, a financial module, and a carbon accounting module. The model is applicable to many different situations: afforestation projects, agroforestry systems, and selective logging systems; it is freely available at http://co2fix.software.informer.com/3.1/.

AFOLU Carbon Calculator: Forest Degradation by Fuel Wood Tool

by

This video provides guidance on how to use the AFOLU Carbon Calculator Forest Degradation by Fuel Wood Tool to estimate reductions in carbon emissions from forest degradation as a result of improved cook stoves.

AFOLU Carbon Calculator: Forest Protection Tool

by

This video provides guidance on how to use the AFOLU Carbon Calculator Forest Protection Tool to estimate reductions in carbon emissions from efforts that protect native forests against deforestation, fire, and illegal logging.

AFOLU Carbon Calculator: Forest Management Tool

by

This video provides guidance on how to use the AFOLU Carbon Calculator Forest Management Tool to estimate the carbon impacts of changes in forest management and timber harvesting practices to reduce carbon emissions.

AFOLU Carbon Calculator: Afforestation/Reforestation Tool

by

This video provides guidance on how to use the AFOLU Carbon Calculator Afforestation/Reforestation Tool to estimate how much carbon has been sequestered from the atmosphere through planting forests.

Carbon Accounting: Modelling

by

This video provides an overview of the different types of models used to estimate carbon pools in forests, including (1) models for indirect estimation of carbon pools, (2) models to explore the potential of various options (ex-ante evaluation) of Clean Development Mechanism and REDD Schemes; and (3) models for baselines and reference levels.
