This presentation provides an overview of the MacTool, an easy and transparent way to build a marginal abatement costs curve—including what the tool can do and how it works. The MACTool presents costs and GHG benefits of low carbon options, to help users achieve GHG targets efficiently, prioritize mitigation options accordingly.

Roles of GHG Inventories at Regional or City Level for Developing Future GHG Emission/Removal Projection

This presentation was shared at the 12th workshop on GHG inventory in Asia (WGIA 12) during August 4-6, 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand. It presents research findings on low carbon society (LCS) scenarios in Asia toward 2050, including the methodology and approach for designing regional or city LCS scenarios and actions, highlighting work done in Japan and Malaysia. The research is based on a multi-layered regional AIM modeling system, which has been developed for 8 national scenarios and 11 sub-national scenarios.

This guidebook aims to build decision makers’ capacity to assess needs and uses for climate-scenario development; identify constraints to climate-scenario development in light of constraints; evaluate existing approaches to generate a prospective range of climate scenarios against identified needs, and build a strong team; and develop and document climate scenarios.
