REthinking Energy: Towards a New Power System, is the first edition of a new series of reports published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).  The report examines the transformation underway in the global energy system and highlights new approaches are needed to decarbonise the global economy, as the electricity sector produce more than 40 percent of man-made (combustion related) CO2 emissions today. The report suggests new approaches to take the energy transformation to the next level as below:

  • electricity-systems planning and market design;
  • policy frameworks and funding;
  • training and education in the fast-growing sector.
