The objective of this Renewable Energy Development Program (REDP) is to provide two components. Component 1 includes a private sector dissemination strategy that utilizes innovative business models and payment schemes and to disseminate appropriate clean technologies to rural poor, such as solar lanterns and fuel efficient cooking stoves. Component 2 focuses on providing basic energy services to thousands of public buildings with renewable energy. The total cost of both components is 42.5 million USD for 8 years of implementation. It will reach 50,000 households and 6,000 public buildings such as schools and hospitals at an estimated cost of $18 per household and US$2000 per institution.
