Learning and Career Opportunities Related to LEDS and Climate Change

1. Free Course on the Economics of Climate-Resilient Development

Dates: February 03, 2014 – February 24, 2014
Application Deadline: January 27, 2014

Description:  In this course offered by the World Bank, you will learn the basics for developing economically viable climate-resilient plans. The course starts with a review of the scientific consensus on changes in climate patterns and projections to the future, and explains the rationale for countries to develop climate-resilient plans that will help them to move away from a business-as-usual development path.
Target Audience: The primary target audience are policymakers in developing countries who have been tasked with developing climate-resilient plans (at the national or regional level) or have been asked to provide estimates of how much it will cost their country to adapt to climate change.

2. ASEAN-US Science & Technology Fellows Pilot Program

Application Due Date: Thursday, January 2, 2014
Description: The ASEAN-US Science & Technology (S&T) Fellows Pilot Program is looking for PhD scientists who are citizens and residents of ASEAN member states and are interested in a one-year fellowship within line ministries in ASEAN countries. The program aims to promote the use of science to inform policy-making, advance regional science cooperation, and build institutional capacities. The program offers a professional development opportunity for the Fellows, who will be linked to US S&T mentors and a broader S&T policy network.

3. World Bank's First Massive Open Online Course on Climate Change

Start Date: Monday, January 27,2014

Description: The World Bank Group is launching its first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on climate change. This MOOC, hosted on the education platform Coursera, runs for 4 weeks, and is free of charge. It is being offered in two tracks: (1) General Public; and (2) Policy Makers and Practitioners. You have access to the material for approximately 6 months after the course ends.The course contains a snapshot of the most recent scientific evidence and practical actions on what you can do about  tackling climate change, a challenge that affects us all.  Explore forward-looking scenarios about your world: Will your community be drier or wetter? Will it be hotter or colder? How will climate change affect your food supply and your water? Can cities be made greener? What steps can you and your community take to prepare for some of these changes?
