The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV, in cooperation with the Global INDC support programme implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), invites you to join us for a webinar on linking Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs).
About the Webinar
In light of the urgency to reach a global climate agreement, all parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have been invited to prepare and submit INDCs intended to specify how each country should plan to help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions based on their capacities and circumstances. Since the Conference of the Parties in Bali, many Non-Annex-I countries have started to prepare and implement NAMAs as part of their national activities to address climate change. In order to save time and resources, and to avoid double structures, it might be advisable to build INDCs upon existing and ongoing mitigation plans and actions (‘NAMAs’, or Pre-2020 Ambition).
As many countries have expressed a need for clarification of the concepts and for guidance on how to establish and capitalise on the links, this webinar seeks to accomplish the following objectives:
– To provide countries with a clear understanding of the concepts of INDCs and NAMAs, their similarities and differences.
– To show that INDCs can build upon past and current experience with NAMAs, LEDS, and REDD+.
– To give countries an overview of possible links between INDCs and NAMAs, and to present examples of how NAMA experience has been leveraged to prepare INDCs.
– To provide a forum for exchanging countries’ experiences of the INDC process, particularly in terms of the links between NAMAs and INDCs.
In this webinar, Heiner von Lüpke, GIZ, will share key insights gained through cooperation with various countries. Additionally, there will be presentations from Indonesia and Tunisia on their approach to linking NAMAs and INDCs. Date and Time Thursday, 30 July 2015: 10:00-11:00 a.m. Central European Time (CET).
